Diani CP Centre recently organized a mental wellness workshop aimed at supporting caregivers and parents of children living with disabilities. The workshop brought together caregivers from different parts of Kwale County to discuss stress management, emotional resilience, self-care, and the challenges associated with caregiving.

Caring for children with special needs can often place emotional, physical, and financial pressure on families. Many caregivers face exhaustion, isolation, anxiety, and burnout while trying to balance caregiving responsibilities with daily life demands. The workshop was designed to provide a safe and supportive environment where participants could openly share their experiences and receive professional guidance.

Facilitated by mental health professionals and community counselors, the sessions focused on practical coping strategies, emotional support systems, relaxation techniques, and the importance of seeking help when overwhelmed. Participants engaged in group discussions, wellness activities, and interactive sessions that encouraged peer support and community connection.

One of the key discussions centered on the importance of caregiver well-being in improving the overall health and development of children with disabilities. Facilitators emphasized that caregivers who prioritize their own mental health are better able to provide consistent care, emotional support, and encouragement to their children.

Participants described the workshop as empowering and therapeutic. Many caregivers appreciated the opportunity to connect with others facing similar challenges and expressed relief in realizing they were not alone in their experiences. Some shared personal stories of resilience, hope, and growth despite the difficulties they encounter daily.

The workshop also highlighted the need for increased community awareness and stronger support systems for families raising children with disabilities. Discussions encouraged communities to promote inclusion, reduce stigma, and create safe spaces where caregivers can access information and emotional support.

Diani CP Centre reaffirmed its commitment to supporting not only children with disabilities but also the families and caregivers who play a critical role in their development and well-being. More wellness and support programs are expected to be conducted throughout the year as part of the Centre’s holistic approach to care and inclusion.
