How therapy, education, and community support transformed one young girl’s life.
When Amina was born with cerebral palsy, her parents were filled with hope for her future. However, as she grew older, they began to notice developmental delays that made it difficult for her to move, communicate, and participate in activities like other children.
The family soon encountered another challenge—social stigma. Many people in their community did not understand disability and often viewed children with special needs differently. Because of these attitudes, Amina spent much of her early childhood isolated at home.
Her mother recalls feeling overwhelmed and uncertain about where to seek help. Opportunities for therapy and specialized education were limited, and the family worried that Amina would never experience the joys of learning, friendship, and community participation.
Everything changed when the family connected with Diani CP Caregivers.
Through the organization’s outreach programs, Amina was assessed and enrolled in therapy services designed to improve her mobility, communication, and daily living skills.
The family was also introduced to caregiver support sessions where they learned practical ways to support Amina’s development while connecting with other parents facing similar experiences.
The establishment of Diani CP Special School opened new doors for Amina.
For the first time, she entered a learning environment specifically designed to support children with neurodevelopmental disorders. The school provided individualized attention, inclusive learning opportunities, and access to therapy services within the same environment.
Amina quickly began building friendships and participating in classroom activities. Teachers observed significant improvements in her confidence, social interactions, and willingness to engage in learning.
Over time, Amina’s progress became increasingly visible.
She developed stronger communication skills, gained greater independence in daily activities, and became more comfortable interacting with peers and adults.
Today, Amina participates actively in school programs and community events. Her confidence continues to grow, and she has become a symbol of hope for many families navigating similar challenges.
